Pexip Government Cloud: Join Teams from any device FedRAMP® and StateRAMP Authorized

The freshly released Realwear ATEX Zone 1 certified device is the only hands-free, wearable computer to be given ‘Intrinsically Safe (IS) Zone 1’ status. Essentially, this means that the device has been deemed safe to wear under even the harshest conditions. It solves one of the major challenges for frontline workers today, as this certification says that the device itself does not present additional safety concerns while operating in hazardous environments.

This is great news for frontline workers! But it’s not the only challenge faced when out in the field, and we like to think that Pexip is helping to solve another important one: the frontline workers’ ability to easily connect these safer wearable headsets to remote collaborators via video.

Our video technology is designed with Realwear users in mind.

Pexip is a flexible, customizable technology that meets the unique needs of the typical Realwear user. To understand these needs, we’ve put ourselves in the shoes of the oil platform worker. This person has been sent on a mission to locate a certain sensor or alarm. Gone are the days when they would be equipped with a laminated map to find the way. Today, a Realwear wearable does the trick far faster.

But someone needs to be on the other end of that device, relaying instructions through audio and video. It sounds easy enough, but this oil platform happens to be quite remote, hundreds of miles from shore. Connectivity is as issue, as is this person’s ability to charge the headset while completing the task.

It’s in facing these challenges that Pexip plays a critical role.

Pexip’s video technology enables Realwear devices, including the new ATEX Zone 1 headset, to instantly connect to remote collaborators over video. Our job is to make sure that the frontline worker can use the headset to connect to Teams or any another video solution. We are the ‘go between’ for users to connect to various video platforms – something we call true interoperability.

We also make sure that the Teams or other video calls work smoothly on the headset despite low bandwidth conditions, all while preserving the battery during the video session. To meet these challenges, our technology is different in that we do something called ‘server-side transcoding’. This means that we use our core AI capabilities to process the video server-side, not on the device itself. The result is better performance despite poor internet quality, and greater preservation of the battery during use.

If we put ourselves back into the shoes of the oil platform worker, we like to think that we’ve helped relieve any potential obstacles to completing the task promptly. This worker’s ability to connect to remote colleagues held steady and the device battery endured, despite the ongoing video meeting. And thanks to Realwear, this individual could rest assured that the headset in use was well-designed for any environment they encountered along the way.
