There’s a part of defense communication that I believe is evolving faster than any other: the use of video at the deployed edge of operations. This is not about boardroom meetings or headquarters briefings – this is about real-time, in-field collaboration connecting warfighters to command. The kind that supports soldiers on the ground, enables joint force coordination, and connects multinational partners in fast-moving, high-stakes environments.
This is mission video, and it’s rapidly becoming one of the most strategically important capabilities in modern defense.
Mission video is where everything converges. It sits closest to the warfighter, directly supporting the mission. It’s also where we see the biggest push for agility, resilience, and all-domain collaboration. And with the evolving realities of allied operations, it’s clear that mission video needs to support not just one command or one country, but a flexible, integrated environment for multilateral coordination.
This is where things get real. Mission video must adapt to the needs of forward command and control (C2) – everything from platforms linking deployable forces with alliance partners via a secure hub to tactical C2 platforms at a local level. It’s video embedded in situational awareness systems, battle management applications, and Communities of Interest (COIs) like NATO’s Mission Network Partners, interoperating seamlessly across operations and environments.
The opportunity here and now is to stop treating video as just another siloed service and start embedding it into the mission itself.
That’s exactly what we’re doing with our partner Sysint through the integration of Pexip into their OneCIS solution. Now, a soldier in the field can plug in a USB and instantly spin up Pexip’s Secure video solution on to practically any data infrastructure available. Or, they can open up their Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK), tap on a friendly callsign, and initiate a secure, two-way communication. No app-switching, no extra gear. Just real-time, mission-aligned collaboration.
What makes this work is our seamless, embeddable approach. We’re not asking defense teams to change how they operate. We’re making it easier to bring video into the environments they already use, whether that’s on ruggedized hardware from MilDef or tactical platforms running Oracle RED in a box. And because we deeply understand our customers’ mission, we can bring that same flexibility and speed to any mission set.
Mission video is a statement about where we’re headed. It’s about video that works at the edge, under pressure, and across coalition boundaries. It’s about survivability, adaptability, and true operational relevance. And it’s where we at Pexip are investing our time, our expertise, and our belief in what’s needed next.
