Challenges

When severe flooding hit southwestern Poland in September 2024, rescue teams needed a reliable way to monitor affected areas from the air.

Police helicopters were already equipped with cameras, but their video transmission system depended on a companion ground vehicle remaining within range. Flooded roads and difficult terrain made that impossible.

The authorities turned to VISIONCUBE for help.

Challenge

Need to facilitate communication between 6 intercommunal bodies bringing together the territory's 92 communes and their internal & external contacts. Replacement of Bluejeans' video interoperability service in 2023.

Results

Secure, flexible and easy-to-use cloud service. Operational stability and guaranteed quality of service. User satisfaction: easy connections from video meeting rooms and/or Microsoft Teams.

Solution

Pexip interoperability solution with interconnection to Microsoft Teams.

Pexip services used

Pexip Connect standard: with gateway (CVI) to Microsoft Teams.

We were initially asked to provide satellite connectivity to support rescue operations. But during discussions with emergency responders, another challenge emerged. We were asked to find a way for the helicopter to continue streaming live video back to the Crisis Management Center without relying on a nearby vehicle.

The solution

Fortunately, VISIONCUBE already had an answer.

For years, the company had operated a specially equipped communications vehicle used to support search and rescue missions. The vehicle combines drones, satellite communications, and a Pexip-powered video platform that allows teams to share live footage with remote decision-makers.

“Using technology we’d already proven in the field, we quickly adapted the solution for aerial deployment. Within 30 minutes, our engineers transferred the setup from their rescue vehicle to a police helicopter, replacing the drone camera input with the helicopter's onboard camera,” said Zygmunt Łodziński.

The helicopter could now stream live video directly to the Crisis Management Center using Pexip, without depending on a companion vehicle on the ground.

Results

Faster deployment when time is of the essence

The solution was operational in less than 30 minutes, allowing authorities to quickly restore aerial visibility across flood-affected areas.

High-quality video for better decision-making

Emergency teams received a full-HD video feed that made it easier to assess flood damage and monitor operations from a distance.

Real-time situational awareness

Because the video stream had virtually no delay, decision-makers could react to events as they unfolded rather than working from footage that was seconds behind.

Controlled access to sensitive information

Unlike public streaming platforms that rely on shareable links, Pexip allowed VISIONCUBE to tightly control who could access the video feed, helping protect sensitive operational information.

Built for unpredictable situations

VISIONCUBE 's air rescue service vehicle was originally designed to support missing-person searches, fires, and other emergency situations. The flood response demonstrated how quickly the same technology could be adapted to meet an entirely different challenge.

For VISIONCUBE, that flexibility is one of the reasons Pexip became part of the platform.

Zygmunt Łodziński, COO

When we built our air rescue service vehicle, we needed a video solution that offered high quality, very low latency, and complete control over who could access the stream. Pexip was the natural choice.
