How to make video collaboration work across commercial and government clouds
In a nutshell
- The customer: A large US enterprise with government contracting operations that used a mix of Cisco video systems and Microsoft Teams Rooms.
- The challenge: Employees needed to join Teams meetings across commercial and government cloud environments, each with different security requirements.
- The solution: Pexip enabled existing video systems to connect to Teams meetings across both environments, with reliable audio and video and simple, one-touch joining.
When meetings need to cross security boundaries
Large enterprises working with the US government often operate in different cloud environments. Some employees use commercial Microsoft Teams, and others must work in Microsoft 365 Government Community Cloud (GCC) High, a separate environment for organizations handling sensitive US government information.
This creates a challenge when employees need to meet across these environments, especially when the organization also has existing video conferencing systems in their meeting rooms.
One large US enterprise was already using Pexip to connect its Cisco video systems to Microsoft Teams meetings. As the organization expanded into GCC High, it needed those same meeting rooms to connect reliably to Teams meetings across both commercial and government cloud environments.
Existing solutions couldn’t meet the deployment timeline or guarantee the video quality and simple joining experience employees expected. IT needed a solution that could work across the two environments and accommodate growing demand.
Connect commercial and GCC High environments
The organization decided to expand its use of Pexip to support video meetings across Azure Commercial and GCC High. Employees could join Teams meetings from their Cisco room systems, regardless of which cloud environment hosted the meeting. They maintained one-touch join functionality, so the experience stayed familiar to employees.
Pexip also resolved connection problems that arose during the migration to GCC High. When native Teams clients experienced performance issues, Pexip provided an alternative way to connect, restoring stable audio and video without requiring users to switch between Teams environments.
The organization also began introducing Microsoft Teams Rooms. With Pexip Connect for Teams Rooms, employees could join meetings on platforms such as Zoom, Webex, and Google Meet from those rooms, including content sharing and dual-screen support.
Challenge
Need to facilitate communication between 6 intercommunal bodies bringing together the territory's 92 communes and their internal & external contacts. Replacement of Bluejeans' video interoperability service in 2023.
Results
Secure, flexible and easy-to-use cloud service. Operational stability and guaranteed quality of service. User satisfaction: easy connections from video meeting rooms and/or Microsoft Teams.
Solution
Pexip interoperability solution with interconnection to Microsoft Teams.
Pexip services used
Pexip Connect standard: with gateway (CVI) to Microsoft Teams.
Reliable meetings across complex environments
The Pexip solution delivered several improvements:
Connect across cloud environments
Cisco video systems can join Teams meetings across commercial and GCC High environments.
Keep meetings running reliably
Stable audio and video resolved connection problems, including black screens and failed content sharing in executive meetings.
Make existing rooms more useful
Cisco systems and Microsoft Teams Rooms can connect to meetings across different platforms, with simple joining and content sharing.
Reduce the burden on IT
Interoperability support tickets dropped significantly, giving IT teams more time for other priorities.
Scale without compromising the meeting experience
Demand grew quickly. The organization used all its initial Pexip licenses within three weeks and expanded its deployment fivefold.
Today, Pexip supports reliable video collaboration across the organization’s commercial and government cloud environments. Employees can use their existing meeting rooms to connect across platforms, and IT has noticeably fewer interoperability issues to resolve.
