Video communications: The natural choice for business continuity in response to Coronavirus

Written by Tom-Erik Lia;Co-Founder | Mar 6, 2020 1:34:56 PM

Concern around the spread of Coronavirus has accelerated many of the collaboration trends we already see in the market today, especially around distributed workforces, the need for workplace flexibility, and a growing focus on social and environmental responsibility to support the UN’s sustainable development goals.

As more workers stay home to reduce the risk of exposure, they need rich collaboration solutions to enable productivity away from the office. Organizations should consider whether they are equipped to manage remote workers at scale and whether those workers can join virtual meetings wherever they are located using the devices and applications they already own.

Beyond workplace collaboration, we expect to see a spike in telehealth usage as more healthcare organizations use video to provide care to patients who cannot visit a clinic in person. Telehealth not only improves healthcare access for patients, but it protects the health of physicians, nurses, and office staff to help reduce exposure to the virus.

At the end of the day, virtual meetings can be as effective as in-person meetings, enabling natural, face-to-face interactions that can build stronger relationships over time. As organizations manage this global health event, video conferencing is one solution that can help employees maintain some level of normalcy and support business productivity.

Supporting customers and partners

Pexip service usage has increased 100% over the past month as organizations respond to corporate travel restrictions and telecommuting policies. To manage this increased load, Pexip is working with customers and partners to ensure they have the capacity and licenses to support their business operations and anticipate changing needs.

We are proactively monitoring capacity loads across our globally distributed architecture; with a Quality of Service (QoS) backbone of 21 points of presence (PoPs) worldwide, Pexip will continue enabling high-quality video communications for users across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas.

Protecting the health and well-being of employees

As COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to spread, Pexip is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to follow guidance from leading organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and other relevant bodies. We are committed to protecting the health of our employees and their loved ones. We proactively work with customers and partners to support their business continuity needs.

We empower employees to make the right decisions for themselves and their families when it comes to traveling, attending in-person events and meetings, and working from a physical office. As a video conferencing company, all employees are equipped to work from home and can conduct virtual meetings, and we encourage employees to limit international and domestic travel, where appropriate. Pexip temporarily closes physical office locations in high-risk areas and restricts travel altogether.

We recognize this is a rapidly-evolving situation, and we’re doing everything possible to support our employees, customers, partners, friends, and families during this time. We’ll continue to provide more information as it becomes available, but if you have any questions, we are happy to speak with you. Please contact your appropriate Pexip representative or submit an inquiry through our website.
